As a documentary wedding photographer, I approach engagement sessions as more of an opportunity to capture a day-in-the-life of my couples. While a pretty field at sunset sure looks great, I find it far more meaningful to document people in the places that mean the most to their relationship. It's also a great way for us to get to know each other over food, coffee, or drinks before the wedding day.
When Nicole and Mac brought me on to photograph their wedding, they were especially excited about recreating their first date bar-hopping in NYC for their engagement shoot. We started the day in Williamsburg walking their very sweet dog around Domino Park and along Kent Ave. Then we went back to their apartment and they got ready for a night out. Before getting into a car and heading to the Lower East Side, we made a quick stop at a bodega by McCarren Park. From there, we went to their favorite movie theatre and the bar where they had their first date before nightcap at LES staple Welcome To The Johnsons.
